China bans Sharon Stone films
Sharon Stone recently angered many in China when she brought up the May 12 earthquake in relation to China’s occupation of Tibet. The actress suggested that the quake, which has devastated the Sichuan Province in China, was due to bad karma over the Chinese government’s treatment of Tibet. During a red-carpet interview at Cannes, Stone said, “I’m not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And then this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and then I thought, is that karma? When you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?”
The comments have resulted in rampant Stone-bashing online, where many are urging a boycott on products she advertises. Even more disastrous for Stone’s career, quite a few Chinese theaters have announced a ban on her films. The actress has at least four films due to be released by 2010, but it looks like Chinese audiences won’t want to see her any time soon.
