Pregnant man gives birth to baby girl
PEOPLE magazine is reporting that Thomas Beatie gave birth to a healthy baby girl this past Friday. Beatie is the transsexual man who had a sex change to become a male while keeping his female reproductive organs intact.
Beatie was born Tracy Lagondino in Hawai, and lived an outwardly girly life for two decades, becoming a girl scout and entering a Miss USA teen pageant. In her 20s, Lagondino began to dress and live as a man, and officially became Thomas Beatie. In 2003, Beatie married a woman who had had a hysterectomy. Beatie became pregnant through artificial insemination, using his eggs and donor sperm.
In April 2008, Beatie told his story to Oprah and became a media phenomenon. He also posed shirtless for bizarre photos like the one above. And voila! Three months later, baby is born. Both baby and father are reportedly doing well. Beatie tells PEOPLE that the child was not delivered via C-section, though that might be more than you wanted to know. He is reportedly publishing a book on the experience next fall.
